Will you believe that you can build a house within two weeks? And the walls are wood, not brick. Sounds impossible in India, right? But that’s exactly what CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) is making possible, and it’s steadily changing how we build homes. Thick wood panels are called cross-laminated timber (CLT). They are made by pressing together layers of wood panels that cross each other at right angles. What does that mean? Something really attractive, strong enough to build multi-storey buildings.
What are the consequences of this discovery for India? First, it is slow, dirty, and expensive to build here. CLT (cross-laminated timber) panels are prefabricated, meaning these wood panels are made in a factory, so they may be joined like a puzzle. Less mess. Less time. Less waste. But the real story is sustainability. India has to deal with over pollution, well-built residences, and climate change. Cement and steel are significant polluters, whereas CLT homes retain carbon rather than releasing it.
CLT homes provide a better, greener path forward for a country that is building millions of dwellings for its rising population. Not just construction. It is a re-imagination of how we make our future in India. The future is CLT homes.
